GEO launches Awards Programme to recognize innovation for the SDGs and individual excellence in Earth observation

News / 20 May 2019

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) will launch an awards programme to recognize valuable contributions to its mission, with the first recipients to be named during GEO Week 2019 next November in Canberra, Australia.

The first award category will focus on the use of Earth observations in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a second category for individual excellence to be launched shortly.

Organized by the Earth Observations for the Sustainable Development Goals (EO4SDG) Initiative from the GEO Work Programme, the Earth Observations for SDGs Awards will recognize productivity, ingenuity, proficiency, novelty and exemplary communications of results and experiences in the use of Earth observations to support sustainable development. This will be indicated by progress towards an SDG Target and/or progress towards, and reporting on, an SDG Indicator. Awardees will receive non-monetary prizes and international recognition for their efforts.

Details on the nomination and selection process for the GEO Earth Observations for SDGs Awards can be found here.
