GEO welcomes newest Participating Organizations and GEO Associates

News / 25 November 2019

At GEO Week 2019 in Canberra, Australia from 4 to 9 November 2019, The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) officially announced the latest Participating Organizations (POs) and Associates to join the global GEO community.

GEO supports more than 100 UN Member States to advance access to open Earth observations to support policies and approaches to climate change, disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. GEO offers all countries the opportunity to benefit from collective knowledge, expertise and skills to develop national Earth observations programmes for research, policy making and decisions.

GEO welcomes POs from a range of intergovernmental, international, and regional organizations, development banks, foundations, non-governmental organizations, and not-for-profit associations.  GEO is working together with a range of entities that cover the full spectrum and value chain from data collection through to use and application. More information about our POs can be found here.

GEO is pleased to welcome the newest Participating Organizations:

  • African Smart Cities Innovation Foundation (ASCIF)
  • Conflict and Environment Observatory (CEOBS)
  • Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH)
  • Cooperation Latinoamerica de Redes Avanzades (CLARA)

This year, GEO approved a new category for GEO Associates, which includes commercial firms and national associations of commercial firms, as well as non-governmental, not-for-profit and civil society organizations with a national or sub-national mandate or scope of operations related to Earth observations. GEO Associates must be registered in the territory of a GEO Member and GEO Associates do not participate in the governance of GEO. More information can be found here.

The new GEO Associates category is one of the approaches that GEO has taken recently to support engagement with the commercial sector. More information can be found here.

GEO is proud to welcome the following GEO Associates:

  • PCI Geomatics
  • Space Enabled Research Group MIT Media Lab
  • SuperMap Software
  • Terradue
  • Trimble

There are now more than 10 GEO Associates in the first six months of this new member category. GEO is accepting new applications on a rolling basis, and they can be accessed here.
