Invitation to the 13th AOGEO Symposium

Blog / February 23, 2021

The Thirteenth Asia Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO) Symposium will be held online from 3 to 5 March 2021. Organized by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), with support from the GEO Secretariat, this annual symposium serves as a regional forum to bring together the GEO community in Asia Oceania and to report on important tasks in AOGEO.

It is an opportunity for the AOGEO community, as well as various stakeholders, to exchange views on Earth observations (EO) and their applications for regional and global priorities.

The theme of the symposium is: “Enhancing the well-being of people in the Asia-Oceania region through Earth observations in the face of COVID-19 impacts - design and implement future steps for Earth observations to realize global agendas, i.e. international policy linked to the GEO engagement priorities.”

This means designing and implementing future steps for Earth observations to realize global agendas, i.e. international policy linked to the GEO engagement priorities.

The symposium will feature:

  • Plenary sessions highlighting country report by AOGEO members;
  • Sectoral meetings of thematic Task Groups (TGs); and
  • Activity reports by the TGs and three geographic areas of Integrated Priority Studies (IPS).

The symposium will also feature three dedicated special sessions on the following hot topics of the region:

  • Special Session 1: Linking Earth Observations with the Statistical Community for SDGs;
  • Special Session 2: Capacity development, data and knowledge sharing in the AO region during and beyond the COVID-19 era; and
  • Special Session 3: Pacific Islands Countries and Territories.

These sessions will cover cross-cutting issues and are designed to build on the country reports and TGs/IPS activity report whilst facilitating insightful discussions in the field of policy, data, science, technology and innovation. Such contributions will advance the regional/global coordination and collaboration among the AOGEO community.

Everyone interested in EO and geospatial information is invited to attend. We look forward to seeing you online!
