AmeriGEO Week 2021, AmeriGEO’s annual meeting, aims to bring communities together to identify synergies and paths toward collaboration among regional efforts related to the integration of Earth observations, geographic, statistical, and other information. As a community, we recognize that data integration is the first step toward transforming data into meaningful and valuable information for decision making and that a joint effort is needed to achieve this goal. These talks intend to elevate the conversation beyond programmatic updates and facilitate an insightful discussion on multilateral cooperation.
This event will be hosted by the Government of El Salvador, the General Secretariat of the Integration System Central American (SGSICA), and the Regional Group on Earth Observations for the Americas (AmeriGEO). The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is designed to enhance decision making and planning through the use of Earth observations from space and on the ground. We hope that this event will continue to bring together decision makers and scientists focused on solving problems in the Americas.
The objectives for the week are:
#1: Demonstrate accomplishments in promoting the use of EO in the decision making process.
#2: Gather relevant information about national and regional activities in the region.
#3: Discuss the different thematic efforts to promote the Aguascalientes Declaration
Since 2014, AmeriGEO has been collaborating with governments and organizations in the Inter-American region to ensure that Earth observations guide decision making processes. The Planning Committee sincerely hopes that you are able to join this event and help AmeriGEO address the most important issues for the region, and the broader, global GEO community.

Texas raised, Albert DeGarmo joined NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) International and Interagency Affairs Division (IIAD) in 2016. In his role as an International Affairs Specialist, Albert supports the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) by serving as Secretariat for AmeriGEO. Established in 2014, AmeriGEO provides a framework for cooperation in the use of Earth observations, among and within countries in the Americas. This regional approach seeks to both take advantage of existing institutional and technical capabilities of its member countries and leverage the resources of other GEO initiatives and Participating Organizations. AmeriGEO focuses its activities in five priority areas agreed by the Americas Caucus: agriculture, biodiversity & ecosystems, disaster risk reduction, water, and health.
