On behalf of the global GEO community, we regret to learn of the passing of Emma Luke of Geoscience Australia. Many of us will remember Emma as being very generous with her support of GEO, in particular organising the GEO Ministerial Summit in Canberra in 2019. Emma facilitated the drafting of the Talanoa Statement, which recognized Traditional Knowledge in the Pacific and how earth observations could benefit regional blue economies. Emma championed the role of Pacific Island Country and Territorial governments in leading earth observation conversations and interventions on the Pacific.
We extend our sincere condolences to her friends, family and to the communities that have benefited from her work and spirit. Her contributions to GEO will be cherished.
